Thank you for sharing your culture! I wouldn't have known otherwise. And hey, by typing this out, you're creating your own representation. And you never know when you will see it in other places. I never saw my ethnic mix represented in the media growing up, but last year I discovered a TV show that had a character with a similar mix. So things are slowly changing. Maybe soon there will be a movie or TV show with a Kabyle or north African lead :)
we are all creating our own representation and that's the beauty of self expression, i hope to see a kabyle MC at some point, and I'm so glad to already live in a world where I can see hijabi women on screen even though that's still rare. We need to support more African media and African actors, African musicians etc.
Jack Parker? She wrote a femisnist essay, called Vénère et several other books, one of them about periods, one about death, and some about horror. I think you'll like it.
Omg i found an algerian on this app!!! Thank you for writing such a representative post about our culture, we get mixed most of the time for being arab/africans/and even the term "north africans" isn't representative as the word kabyle or berbères so thank you for taking the chance of having an audience to share about this ❤️
hey lina! thank you so much for reading and welcome!! i hope to write more about our heritage in the future and make ourselves more known in the process
thank you for sharing this!! this is why it’s so important to have representation in different types of media. and the more you talk about it on platforms like this, the more likely it probably is for you to find that community. this was so lovely to read and I definitely learned something new :) <3
Ayyeee you’re starting a MENA community here! It’s so interesting that Kabyles also means Tribal in Arabic.
Keep talking about your identity and culture. It’ll cultivate more people to present themselves more and all of a sudden you’ll see a full on mena community here. It’s on the way, don’t worry ;)
This is fascinating, thank you so much. I grew up in Brussels, Belgium and I’m sure now I think about it that I heard the term Berbères spoken. I have Syrian/Lebanese heritage (by way of Egypt) and our family speak French etc.
Thank you. Recently returned from holiday in Morocco 🇲🇦 It was Berber Amazigh New Year. I absolutely loved the country and the people. Can’t wait to go again. 🥰
Hi my name is Muna, I am full-blooded amazigh from Libya. I'm constantly learning about the history and traditions and want to start sharing it on my substack!

you know what’s crazy, I studied African History and not once were Kabyles mentioned, which sucks tbh. Thank you so much for sharing this.
african history is so rich! it all depends on which part of the continent your studies focused on i guess! i’m glad you learned something <3

egypt has berbères! they’re not necessarily Kabyles but the whole of north africa has different groups ;)
Oh wonderful!! I love all these connections so much.
