EXACTLY!!!!! The “it’s not that deep” epidemic needs to end because everything is that deep we’ve just been systemically numbed to joy and whimsy

Giving a fuck is very much in it’s always been and always will be that deep

Luciana, this slapped like a glitter bomb at a funeral: jarring, needed, unforgettable.

You’re so right, nonchalance is fear in disguise, and sincerity is what we’re starved for. That Madonna karaoke moment? That’s what aliveness is.

Your words reminded me that giving a damn, fully, loudly, awkwardly, is still a radical act.

I’m with you: let’s make 2025 the year of unapologetic passion.

Siggy xx

Ps Nostalgic moment: standing on a table in Magaluf bar, singing Thriller By MJ in 1993.

We have centuries of research and experience in architecture, city planning and nutrition, but only a couple decades of research into web design.

If we pretend that the internet etc. are these completely new things with no comparison it gives us permission to ignore history and repeat harmful mistakes.

(i really care about this shit)

Luciana YESSSS!!! So well written. Also thank you for bringing the MBB interviews to people's attention. I've been feeling uneasy watching them recently but I couldn't quite pinpoint as to why. Appreciate you for linking to my essay ❤️❤️

Same!! Love that you also grasp that this is so much bigger about these two actors individually and much more about our projections on them/interpretations of them ❤️

This essay rings so true Ive been exhausted by societies influx of nonchalance and am exhilarated to see someone put the feeling into words. I’ve got a couple of things that get my engines reved! World building in fantasy settings, the commercialization of the tattoo industry and nonqueer gay people!

Thank you for adding to this conversation. I’ve been going on about how we should go back to being sincere. Because no matter if it appeals to some people, like in your example of Culkin, nonchalance it’s still a performance, and it feels insincere.

What an astounding article talking about nonchalance and passion! I feel that the world has so many problems to care for presently, that some people choose to just be non chalant and get going. And they are much more in number cause most of us just want to escape from realities! Being passionate about something is seen as nerdy and geeky but what it really means is we care about that thing more than anyone else. It’s just that simple. Brilliant article as always!

I feel like there is so much unlearning to be done in this area, at least for me. I remember pretending not to know things to be seen as nonchalant, but the tragic thing is that as I get older, my memory recall is getting slower and I wish I was as quick with information about my interests as I was in high school. I see some of those tendencies in the youth I volunteer with, but I think being passionate is slowly becoming acceptable and even desirable among them. I hope so, at least. Great article, a lot to be hopeful about for the future!

When I was a kid I was fully convinced that not caring, being nonchalant and whatever about things was the epitome of cool. I legit watched Ice Age and decided to act like Diego bc he was so cool, completely ignoring any flaws in his character. But not caring wasn't only unhealthy. It was actually really difficult for me as at my core I'm someone who wears their heart on their sleeve. And it didn't get me anywhere, just increasingly frustrated and confused. What a waste of time.
