Loved loved loved this!!! Just like the Rory one, this one was straight to the point. I’m fed up of people using Carrie’s pictures in notes and just pretending to be like her. Relax!!
You’re right! Understanding a complex character and liking it or disliking it is a different thing and just straight up hating one is completely different. Someone can never be Carrie and why should one? Be something else. We are need of a change. It’s just too boring to see duplicates of Carrie and Rory everywhere.
heyyy ritwik thank you so much for reading as always! this article was really difficult to write because i felt there was a need for this sequel to rory gilmore and also to talk honestly about carrie, we are not carrie bradshaw nor should we want to be. the only thing i envy about her are her friends
oh i’m currently watching it with my mother (she hates it, she doesn’t get it) and i’m in love with sandra and jodie. the story is so complex i can’t wait to dive into it more
you’ve done it again luciana! it was hard not to restack literally every sentence, i just resonate so much with your thought process and it was a joy to read! it got me thinking about really how much i loved HTGAWM and viola did so phenomenal as annaliese she had me at the edge of my seat every thursday night omg. i only in the past year or so gotten into scandal, and i’ll say olivia pope is one strong woman, one of privilege as well as black!which you didn’t see often at the time when scandal was airing. while i didn’t relate to everything, it was refreshing to see an opinionated and educated woman who stood her ground at all times. one of my fav lines from her “it is a PRIVILEGE to speak to me. you do NOT have privileges!” 😂 thank you again for this piece, i love all that you do! 🫶🏽👏
heyyy brianna thank you so much for reading! how to get away with murder is a masterpiece of representation I'm obsessed with it. i haven't really dove into scandal as an adult (i watched it when it was airing as a teen) but i need to watch a few seasons to get an idea of the show, even though the concept of Olivia pope having an affair with the president is boring to me, i kinda miss the PR nightmare
oh yeah the affair is a huge part of the show lol, but i think it’s interesting to have a strong female lead who time after time chooses a married man. she even wrestles with the fact that he’s married as well, maybe not enough though 😂 i like that olivia is flawed, it gives her humanness. i think in a way even carrie could sympathize with her given she did the same thing with big when she was with aiden!
oh yeah i like the fact that she's flawed, shonda rhimes is amazing at writing flawed female leads, but i just don't like their romance??? i don't see it, and it takes such a huge part of the story that i don't ever see myself enjoying the show fully but we will see. it's on my watchlist ;)
Great thoughts as always, Luciana! I May Destroy You was fantastic and does need a lot more attention. On that note, have you seen Chewing Gum? It's a bit absurdist so it's not as palatable as Gilmore Girls or SATC, but there's a complex, relatable protagonist that can make you laugh. I think Mindy Kaling is also putting the work in to give more non-white representation in the romcom/lighthearted comedy space, even if it can draw on stereotypes a little too much. But you're right, we need more!
i've never hard of chewing gum but if it's absurdist it's now on my watchlist. mindy kaling is doing a great job with indian representation I loved the first couple of seasons of her netflix show, the main character is so messy and boy obsessed i love her.
I think you might enjoy Chewing Gum then! It's a Michaela Coel comedy about sexual awakening. The main character is also messy and boy obsessed, and she's the daughter of an immigrant that lives in a humble council flat. You can always count on UK shows to keep it real in terms of wealth!
i absolutely loved reading this! you’re so correct. we are digesting so much of the same content without realising it. well, i would love to add a little sriracha to my diet hahaha
thank you so much for reading as always ! it sucks because i'm mostly being exposed to western media, because that's what i have access to, but i wish i knew my way around media from all over the world to get a better perspective and view life from different people and lifestyles...
As a Queer, plump Latina, I feel this lol. Carrie Bradshsw, Rory Gilmore, Penelope Featherington, Emily Cooper... they were all fantasies to me. A wildest dream, a best-case scenario.
I must admit I have a lot of privilege myself, but this kind of woman had it all and we never saw her struggle. In reality, reaching this level of success can take you months or even years, and it's never guaranteed.

THIS PART
We need to sit with our discomfort, hold it, and question it
Great piece. What about Killing Eve?
oh i’m currently watching it with my mother (she hates it, she doesn’t get it) and i’m in love with sandra and jodie. the story is so complex i can’t wait to dive into it more
You’ll love it!
This was so great and so true. Have you tried Industry? A complex black woman lead *chefs kiss*
Industry rocks
no i haven’t yet but it’s on my list!! i’ve been seeing screenshots of it on my insta and can’t wait to watch it in january
